It is said that teachers are the unsung heroes of today. To teach is not only to perform one’s duty but to do it with heart and with passion. Teaching is not merely a profession but a mission: a mission to develop young minds, to inculcate good deeds, and to shape the future of the younger generation.

Since educators play a vital role in character formation as well as building the potentials of the students, they have to be competent and skilled. It is said that “You cannot
 give what you don’t

have”,therefore, they have to be equipped with the knowledge they need in carrying out the responsibilities given to them. Being a mentor is an unending process of teaching and learning. Once a person becomes a teacher, he/she should not stop from learning new helpful things. He/she could learn from the formal education, from one’s own experience, from the students point of views, and from the trainings being provided to them. An educator always hungers for the things that could help him/her more in providing not only the academic needs of the pupils but with their behavior concerns.

For this reason the Guidance and Counseling Center has decided to hold a seminar with a theme on how to teach the subject in an interesting way. We believe that the students should be motivated well in order to tickle their minds and hearts in paying attention to their studies. Thus, develop study habit at home. The said event was entitled “Innovative Teaching Strategies” and was held last December 14, 2009 at the SEC AVR. The said occasion was participated in by the grade school and high school teachers. The topics covered were the attributes of an empowered teacher, types and wishes of learners, teaching methods, and new teaching strategies and techniques.

These were delivered by Dr. Florcelita G. Zamora, an associate professor from STI College, Sta Rosa.
